Orange Group - a new alliance

The mobile alliance formed by Orange SA, Telefónica Móviles, TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) and T-Mobile announced the results of its collaboration, outlined plans for the future and unveiled its new brand. FreeMove, the brand that represents the alliance offers simplicity, quality, and reliability, assuring the customers that they will receive the same enhanced mobile experience abroad as they do at home.

The alliance includes leading companies from the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain and reaches nearly 170 million customers in 21 European territories and some 230 million customers worldwide.

Greater simplicity, unrivalled international coverage, higher quality services and traffic development initiatives are anticipated to result in a significant increase in roaming usage between the member countries. The FreeMove alliance also intends to improve its global expertise in offers and services for business - in particular for multinational companies, who spend Euro 4 billion annually on mobile communications.
The FreeMove alliance already operates in nearly 90% of the European territories in which multinational companies are located, enabling it to respond to the needs of this market.

The four companies have aligned their international bidding process to ensure that they can respond efficiently to customer requests through a single point of contact. FreeMove alliance members intend to offer a ‘one-stop-shop' to multinational companies, underpinned by a transparent and straightforward approach to meeting their needs, through:
single, central dedicated account management and customer service to simplify the process for multinational companies
advanced international central reporting and analysis, providing customers with a transparent view of their usage and costs
simple and predictable roaming tariffs with a straightforward system of geographic zones will offer customers one rate, irrespective of time of the call and regardless the network (even when using non-alliance networks).

Through its proportions, strength and expertise, FreeMove will deliver an enhanced experience to customers through greater choice, flexibility and transparency.

Orange Romania at CERF 2004

CERF 2004 has been for Orange an opportunity to present for the first time in Romania two technologies that will improve the existing services and will lead to the emergence of new ones, both for business and entertainment. CERF 2004 represents a preview of the October launch of data transmission through EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), a technology allowing the improvement of data transmission speed, by increasing it approximately three times. For the purpose of this demonstration, Orange Romania developed at CERF a network parallel to the commercial one, which had EDGE capabilities and thus showed the advantages the users are offered, by improving data transmission and Internet related services (file download, Internet access). The commercial launch of EDGE in Romania will take place at the end of this year in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Brasov and Timisoara. Six other cities will follow in 2005.
Orange Romania is the first subsidiary of Orange Group to implement EDGE technology.

Another technology presented at CERF 2004 was video streaming which allows a number of services known as: video on demand, live camera and live TV. The first category offers the possibility to view on the mobile phone screen, on demand, video clips, movie trails, short animation films and other short films of interest such as last minute news, weather forecasts, sports, etc. The second category - live camera - offers the possibility to watch on the mobile phone screen images taken by cameras filming places of public or private interest for surveillance purposes or in order to give information regarding the conditions of certain areas of public interest (parking lots, restaurants, etc.).

The third category and the most spectacular one introduced at CERF 2004 was represented by the possibility to watch local TV stations live on the mobile phone screen.

On the official opening of CERF 2004, the Orange stand was visited by Mr. Sanjiv Ahuja, Orange Group CEO.
