national coverage
for the broadband network
The third generation of mobile phone services, 3G, was launched by Orange on 6 June this year in Bucharest and Timisoara. Cluj-Napoca and Brasov followed soon afterwards and, at the end of October, 3G coverage was extended to six new cities: Bacau, Baia-Mare, Craiova, Ploiesti, Satu-Mare and Sibiu.
This means that, in any of the ten cities they happen to be, pay-monthly and PrePay customers who use 3G-compatible phones will be able to communicate using video calling or to take advantage of speeds of up to 384 kbps when using data services: internet/intranet access, mobile email, push email, video and mobile content services.
EDGE coverage has been extended to the national level, which enables users to transfer data at up to 220 kbps, anywhere in the country. By extending the 3G network and completing the EDGE network, Orange is providing high-speed mobile services to an ever-greater number of customers. As a result, upon exiting the 3G coverage area, no significant reduction in data transfer speeds will be noticed, since the service will continue to function in the EDGE network.
To facilitate such transitions, our phone offer includes many 3G/EDGE compatible phones which provide optimal data connectivity. Our 3G/EDGE Business Everywhere mobile data cards are a natural addition to the range of phones available.
At the end of this year, Orange has also prepared special 3G offers for video calling and data services.
