Increasing sales - case study

Background
We are presenting the situation of an FCMG company having field sales force dedicated to large commercial centers (hypermarket, cash & carry, supermarket).

Mobile communication requirements
After visiting a point of sales and identifying supply needs, the sales representative had to access the information through the company sales support system - stocks, delivery terms, etc. - and send supply orders in real time.

Orange solution
Following the assessment of the real situation, Orange proposed to the customer a data transmission solution based on the GPRS technology. The advantages of this solution are:

fast access for the sales representative to Intranet resources (information offered by the sales support department, e-mail access, work documents, etc.)

transmission in real time of supply orders from the field sales representative to the headquarters

In addition, the client uses a software programme offered by a specialized supplier.

GPRS offer for data transmission
The GPRS data transmission solution proposed by Orange is Office Net Access - a package conceived to facilitate Intranet remote access for mobile employees.

This solution allows an optimization of the GPRS traffic consumption and includes a data transmission package that can be used by all mobile employees of the company.

The benefits of using the new Orange solution are:
increase of sales due to an improved supply system
    decrease of communication costs
fast transmission in real time and without errors, of the supply orders
automatic orders placing and real time stocks database updating
significant decrease of supplying time for large commercial centers
decrease to minimum of ”zero stock” situations
improvement of communication between the field employees and company management due to mobile access to their office e-mail account

question
What is GPRS?

answer
Description
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) represents one of the most modern telecommunication technologies, allowing fast data transmission within a mobile telephony network.

GPRS has been developed to ease remote access Internet and Intranet resources. .

Benefits
High transmission speed
GPRS offers transmission speed superior to GSM technology. While GSM allows a maximum speed of 9.6 Kbps, in Orange network GPRS transmission speed can reach 53.6 Kbps and even 80 Kbps in some cells.
Transmission speed depends mainly on the type of GPRS telephone used and also on the radio signal power in the area.

Billing per volume
Time connection autonomy is the user’s main advantage when billing is made per volume. Thus, Internet surfing is not restricted by time costs, as only the volume of information transferred through the network is billed.

Instant Connection
GPRS facilitates the instant access to network and services. This represents an important aspect in applications to which responding time is critical, such as credit cards authentication, when it is unacceptable for the user to wait more than 30 seconds.

Applications
The benefits brought by GPRS allowed the development of new applications:

access of mobile employees to company specific applications, data bases, work documents, product descriptions, products technical specifications and other resources available on company Intranet
employees’ access to the e-mail account when they are out of the office
applications that connect some company branches or points of sales, for which the connection through dedicated lines is not justified
telemetric applications (machine-to-machine communication): car fleet management, security systems, temperature monitoring, various equipment remote monitoring (cooling equipments, automatic machines, etc.)
