technical description

M2M Connect is a platform which facilitates communication between customers’ corporate intranet applications and remote equipment. It integrates quickly, cutting down the cost and complexity of developing one’s own M2M solution.

Using SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), both the Orange Text Message Centre and the GPRS network can be accessed via secure Internet (https). Communication with remote equipment takes place via text messages or GPRS (using a dedicated “m2m” apn). Exchanged messages can be text, XML, compressed XML (WBXML – WapBinaryXML) or even binary.

As a result, M2M Connect accepts messages sent by equipment (via SMS or GPRS) and stores them until they are read by the customer’s application. Conversely, the application stores and transmits messages to the equipment. M2M Connect is designed to integrate with equipment which requires real-time communication, for example when reading information from remote measurement devices.

The intranet application or authorised personnel logs in to M2M Connect via a secure Internet connection at https://m2mconnect.orange.ro/ using a username and password.
